Mulgrew gets Fermanagh job

Charlie Mulgrew has been unveiled as the new Fermanagh football manager.

The former Donegal star edged out Belfastman Frank Dawson for the Erneside role.

Mulgrew, who was part of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland winning squad, has guided Letterkenny club St Eunan's to senior county titles.

The St Eunan's clubman, who also helped his county win Ulster titles in 1983 and 1990, will take charge for Sunday's McKenna Cup game against Queen's.

Mulgrew was part of Declan Bonner's backroom team when the Rosses man was in charge of Donegal in the late 1990s.

Fermanagh vice-chairman Peter Carthy, part of a three-man selection committee, said it had been "a very difficult" choice between Mulgrew and Dawson.

Former Down hurling boss Dawson is now expected to take over as manager of Tyrone club Moortown.

Dawson recently lost his job as Bellaghy boss after serving a successful stint as Clonduff manager.

Dominic Corrigan stepped down from the Fermanagh role last month after claiming that he was not being given the necessary resources for 2004.

Former Fermanagh player and current Loup boss Malachy O'Rourke turned down an approach from county officials.

Fermanagh's rise to Division 1A has brought them fixtures against Dublin, Kerry, Mayo, Cork and All-Ireland champions Tyrone who are also the NFL holders.
