1430: So, it's almost certainly the Red Bulls' to lose. The Sebastian Vettel-Mark Webber battle could get interesting, though, while the face-off for points behind them between Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Mercedes should be hot enough to keep us on the edge of our seats. I'll be bringing you our race report tomorrow, so join Chris Whyatt from around 1130 for all the latest news, chat and then race action, with the race due to start at 1300 BST. Be there.

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton on BBC One: "It (fifth on the grid) was really my target. Well, your target is always pole, but the Red Bulls are impossible to beat - they are 1.7secs ahead. For Jenson and me, we just look at the onboard footage and laugh. I don't know what they (Red Bull) are doing, but it's incredible. It was possible I could get close to Massa, but I don't think I could have beaten him today. I pulled every inch out of the car and I'm happy with the job I did. We've got to work hard but it's a good position to start tomorrow. It's a long haul down to Turn One so anything's possible. Fourth or third would be spectacular."

Renault's Vitaly Petrov on BBC One: "We knew our car would be quick here. To work hard, we improved some parts, we brought some new parts. Always when you drive around you are never thinking about beating your team-mate, you just focus on your lap time. I know this circuit quite well and this is why I did well today."

Zeke Pliskin on 606: "You've got to admit, this is a pretty special season. The rules and point systems seem to be lined up pretty nicely, enough to keep things exciting, and each and every race we're seeing some huge surprises."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner on BBC One: "This was probably our most dominant qualifying of the year. The track suits the car well, with not many straights and lots of corners which is perfect for us. But we have seen the Ferraris and McLaren are closer in race trim. As for the talk about our front wing - the regulations are clear, there is a clear FIA test the cars have to pass. We're happy the car complies. This week it's front wing, before that it was active suspension, before that diffuser. The team should take it as a compliment. We're focused on our own performance, hopefully we can get two good starts and get our heads down and leave the rest behind."

Red Bull's pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel on BBC One: "It was a very good day for us. All weekend here we felt very comfortable with the car and we were able to improve it another bit overnight. I said on the radio to the boys 'this is your moment'. I said 'you built this wonderful car'. It was a pleasure to drive. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. This circuit suits us. You need to know the track but you need to have the car. The track suits our car so we are little bit quicker than the rest. We found the problem from last week that made the bad start so hopefully we can have a normal start tomorrow. Usually in Hungary it is important to be on the clean side. The start is important but there are 70 laps after that. It will be an exciting race tomorrow."

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso on BBC One: "We found a big gap between Red Bull and us this weekend, so we maximised our potential today. We did our job which is to be best of the rest. Hopefully tomorrow we can make it a more difficult race for them because so far this weekend it has been too easy. The start is important, it is difficult to overtake. Strategy will be important but we know the start will be 60-70% of the race."

Red Bull driver Mark Webber on BBC One: "I did my best today. I probably didn't put in the cleanest lap on the first flyer but, hey, that's the way it goes. I'm sure there's a bit more for both of us to get out of the car again as well. I'm still in a great position - congratulations to Seb, he deserves pole - but we can both have a great race tomorrow for sure."

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh on BBC One: "I think getting in front of Felipe Massa was do-able for Lewis (Hamilton), but still, to be the first of the fixed-wing vehicles is something. That's how we feel at the moment. There's a regulation about the wings needing to be 85mm above the ground, and to be rigid. Perhaps it's time for some clarification."

Ferrari on Twitter: "We have to be happy with the result even though the margin is very, very big. Congratulations to Red Bulls - but the race is tomorrow."

Jenson Button on qualifying in 11th: "In practice I had good balance, but I struggled with the car in qualifying. I was OK on the prime tyres, but I couldn't get the options working. It's tough, but we were never going to be on the front two rows here. At least I'm on the clean side of the grid. We can still pick up good points."

Eddie Jordan on BBC One: "This is the most significant dominance by a team so far this season. Red Bull are absolutely at the top of their game and their rivals have absolutely no answer at the moment."

1403: No improvement on his time of 1:18.773 in that final lap - but even his second run would've earned Sebastian Vettel pole. It's another Red Bull one-two at the head of the grid, followed by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg share the third row, with Vitaly Petrov out-qualifying Renault team-mate Robert Kubica behind them and Pedro de la Rosa and Nico Hulkenberg completing your top 10.


1400: Sebastian Vettel is still out, almost certainly guaranteed pole, but will he rub it in with an even faster time?

1400: Mark Webber is four 10ths down through the second sector... not looking good...

1359: With less than 30 seconds remaining, all 10 cars are out on the track.

BBC Radio 5 live analyst Anthony Davidson: "That was a stunning lap from Vettel. There we go, Red Bull were hiding even more pace than we suspected, showing what that brilliant car can do on this track. That is a fantastic effort by the Milton Keynes-based team."

1358: Mark Webber emerges back out of the Red Bull garage for his final runs well ahead of Sebastian Vettel.

1357: It's the two Red Bulls, the two Ferraris, Lewis Hamilton P5 with a 1:20.499 and then Nico Rosberg sixth with a 1:21.183. Hulkenberg, Petrov, Kubica and De La Rosa not yet blazing any trails in this session.

1355: Double boom. Sebastian Vettel goes 0.4 seconds faster still, the German going P1 with a 1:18.773.

1355: Boom. Mark Webber is P1 with a 1:19.184 - more than 0.8 seconds faster than Alonso.

1354: Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has the fastest time on the charts with a 1:19.987 - but the Red Bulls have yet to post a time.

1352: Nico Hulkenberg, Vitaly Petrov and Pedro de la Rosa have already used three sets of super-softs so that immediately puts them at a disadvantage to their rivals.

1350: Here we go then - Q3 and what promises to be a fascinating shoot-out between Red Bull team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Where's ya money?

BBC Radio 5 live analyst Anthony Davidson: "It's becoming like a broken record with Jenson complaining about not being able to find the grip in qualifying this season. He's not making that up, but his team-mate Lewis Hamilton is managing to drive round it. Jenson has to knuckle down and find that extra grip, perhaps by being more aggressive in the car."

BBC Sport's Sarah Holt on Twitter: "If you want some good news Button fans - don't forget he won from 14th on the grid in wet conditions here in 2006 for his first GP win."

BBC Radio 5 live commentator David Croft: "That is a huge blow for Jenson Button, the man who is second in the championship table."

BBC F1 analyst Martin Brundle: "Mark Webber said this morning: 'It's Barcelona all over again, mate.' A reference to the Spanish Grand Prix, where Red Bull were the best part of a second a lap faster than anyone else."

1343: He can't! Jenson Button fails to reach Q3 after being slightly obstructed at Turn Two on his final flying lap and the McLaren driver manages only 11th on the grid. He is joined in the drop-out zone by Barrichello, Sutil, Schumacher, Buemi, Liuzzi and Alguesuari. The reigning world champion (Button) and a seven-time champion (Schuey) fail to reach Q3, then. Horror.

1342: Hulkenberg and De La Rosa have pushed Jenson Button out of the top 10. Can the Briton respond?

1342: Nico Rosberg goes P4 with a 1:20.811. Impressive.

1341: Jenson Button could well be struggling here...

1341: Williams' Nico Hulkenberg goes wide at Turn 11 and ruins a flying lap - that could cost him a place in Q3, the German currently 11th and the best of his tyres now possibly gone.

1340: Fernando Alonso cements third place with a 1:20.237 - nearly a full second faster than fourth-placed Robert Kubica.

1338: Jenson Button, currently ninth, will certainly have to go out again with the Williams of Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg threatening from behind him on the charts.

Ferrari on Twitter: "The two Red Bulls are clearly ahead of everyone else."

BBC Radio 5 live analyst Anthony Davidson: "Qualifying is Red Bull's to throw away - they have an even bigger advantage here than they did at Silverstone, where they were dominant."

1335: Nico Robserg leaps up to eighth with a 1:21.296, but Mercedes team-mate Michael Schumacher can only improve to 14th. The seven-time champion struggling here.

1334: Your strugglers with eight minutes to go in Q2 are De La Rosa, Sutil, Liuzzi, Alguersuari, Buemi, Schumacher and Rosberg.

1333: Lewis Hamilton goes P6 with a 1:21.221, while McLaren's Jenson Button is more than two seconds off the Red Bull's pace in P8. Ouch.

1331: Sebastian Vettel's mechanics have had to change the 'cake tin' - the carbon fibre shrouding around the brake disc - on his front right tyre, but still no prizes for guessing who tops the timings - it's the German with a 1:19.866 ahead of team-mate Mark Webber.

1329: Felipe Massa gets in an early flying lap in Q2 and it's a 1:21.417 - a 10th off his best time in the first part of qualifying. Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, posts the fastest time of the middle sector in setting a 1:21.010 - the Spaniard fastest on the timings in his Ferrari.

1327: So Timo Glock wins the battle of the new teams in finishing Q1 19th, while up the other end of proceedings the Red Bull and Ferrari pairs are split by Renault's Robert Kubica and Mercedes' Nico Robserg. Seventh and eighth were Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, ahead of two Wiliams and the Renault, Vitaly Petrov. Here we go in Q2, though, during which Michael Schumacher - for one - has to knuckle down.

1322: BMW Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi something of a surprise exit there, then - it turns out the Japanese driver got disastrously held up by Bruno Senna on his final flying lap and he pays the price.

1321: That's your lot from Q1, then, another qualifying session utterly dominated by the Red Bulls. Out go Kobayashi, Glock, Kovalainen, Trulli, Di Grassi, Senna and Yamamoto.

1319: As Jenson Button sets the fastest time out of anyone in the first sector, Michael Schumacher goes 12th fastest.

BBC 5 live F1 commentator David Croft: "Jarno Trulli has been on his radio complaining that Vettel held him up, and that it cost him four tenths of a second. That could be interesting if the stewards get involved."

1318: Mercedes' Michael Schumacher, currently 18th and out of Q2, comes out again with more than a little work to do. He's on the fast super-softs.

1317: Force India's Adrian Sutil goes P11 with a 1:22.165.

1316: Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button come out on a brand new set of hard tyres - the McLaren pair feel they have work to do, obviously.

1315: Force India's Adrian Sutil sits in the pits, but he will have to come back out firing as the session enters its final five minutes - the German is in the drop zone as we speak alongside Trulli, Kovalainen, Glock, Di Grassi, Senna and Yamamoto.

BBC Radio 5 live analyst Anthony Davidson: "Time and again Alonso is fastest in the first sector. If he can somehow find some time in the second sector, he can at least hope to be somewhere near the Red Bulls."

1312: Sebastian Vettel, on the hard tyres and most probably on a low engine setting, takes 0.7 seconds off the fastest time with a 1:20.417. Closing out the front row on this form will be like taking candy from a baby for the Red Bull pairing.

1311: With the lap times continuing to fall at the top of the charts, the usual suspects hold up the pack - with the likes of Sakon Yamamoto, Bruno Senna, Lucas di Grassi, Timo Glock and Lotus pair Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli off the pace.

1308: Correction, below, it was Fernando Alonso, not Felipe Massa.

1308: Just as I say that Fernando Alonso takes his Ferrari round just 0.3 seconds off Vettel's leading time.

1307: Already the Red Bulls are tearing strips off the other cars. Sebastian Vettel leads team-mate Mark Webber at the top of the timings, with more than a second separating the German and third-placed Renault Robert Kubica. Ominous.

BBC F1 pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz: "McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh was saying it's going to be a challenging session for them. There is talk within the team that if they're unlucky one of the drivers might go out in Q2."

BBC Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson: "The track is still not in ideal condition - the oil laid down by the Formula BMW guys earlier this morning is still evident."

1304: Renault's Vitaly Petrov posts the first lap on the timings, a 1:23.386.

1303: Despite warnings of traffic early on in Q1 from his team, Nico Hulkwenberg is also out on track in his Williams, with Jenson Button also having an early look at things in his McLaren.

1300: Qualifying one gets under way, with Vitaly Petrov the first man on the track in his Renault.

BBC F1 analyst Martin Brundle: "Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel know that if they have two Ferraris coming at them as one in favour of Fernando Alonso, sooner or later their team is going to have to defend that and play tactics, too. That's what coming at them in the next two or three races - guaranteed."

Lotus Racing on Twitter: "Seconds away from Qualifying in Hungary. Wish us luck!!!"

Force India on Twitter: "Both cars are ok for qualifying, no change of gearbox for tonio."

Ferrari on Twitter: "Everything is ready inside the Ferrari garage. Drivers are getting ready to sit inside the cockpit."

1255: Right then, with five minutes to go until Q1 gets under way - and on a track notoriously difficult to overtake on - how desperate will McLaren be to get Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button high up the grid? Both can be fine defensive drivers, but given their pace - they are well off Red Bull and Ferrari's top speed - their success or otherwise this weekend could all come down to the next hour and a half or so. The pair spoke to our girl on the scene Sarah Holt this week, Hamilton admitting: "We are massively down (on their rivals). It's about scoring what points we can and hoping those ahead have trouble," with world champion Button adding: "Red Bull seem to be in a league of their own but Ferrari are strong too." Any chance of a shock from those two?

Anyone would have done the swap that Ferrari did last week were they in the same position and if they don't it's sheer bull-headedness."

1245: What about a little weather update for you, then? BBC Weather's Ian Fergusson reports: "Heavy thunderstorms are tracking north, just west of the Danube at the moment and will pass just west of Budapest during qualifying. The teams can breathe easy - they will not affect the circuit. However, had they been just 30-40 miles east, we would be seeing a totally drenched spell later in quali. Lucky for the drivers/teams then - arguably not for the fans!"

1241: A nice Frank Williams piece on BBC One, now - I wonder how much he's enjoying his team's challenge of getting the best car under drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg? The young German topped the charts for a spell during final practice but, by the end, he and Barrichello lay in 10th and 11th spots in the timings respectively. Can they get into Q3 and provide Williams with a lovely little fillip this afternoon?

1234: Former F1 driver - and race steward for this weekend - Derek Warwick could be a man in the spotlight should team orders come to the fore again this weekend as they did in Germany last week, and he's had this to say about the controversy on BBC One: "There was team orders around when I was driving, when people like Piquet and Senna were number ones in their teams. It's always been there. It happened when I was at Brabham and Patrese's car blew up before a race. Our team owner, Bernie Ecclestone ordered me out of my car and gave it to Patrese. You are there to win the world championship and there is a point in the season where you have to favour the guy who can win it. But we can't keep doing this in front of the fans. If we are going to do team orders, then do it clever. The way Ferrari did it was distasteful. It was unfair for F1 and the fans."

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali talking to Jake Humphrey on BBC One: "There was quite a lot of hypocrisy around (after the German Grand Prix). That was quite interesting. I am not surprised. It was incredible to see how everyone wants to steal the thing and make a negative situation. This is something that starts from the beginning of F1 - nothing has changed. It is a matter of how you present it. We always said the team is the most important thing, and the drivers have to respect that. This is the philosophy of the Scuderia since the first day of our history."

1219: As expected, huge chat again this week about team orders and Ferrari's actions last weekend in helping Fernando Alonso to victory in Germany. BBC Sport's Martin Brundle has been having his say on Inside F1, saying team orders should be scrapped and that the Ferrari incident "was not even a scandal". BBC F1 commentator Jonathan Legard, meanwhile, has been garnering opinion from inside the sport and the answer appears to be - there is no easy answer. Unless you ask McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh, who says simply that team orders should be legalised - end of story. This one will run and run.

BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Budapest: "Fernando Alonso has been the closest man to the Red Bulls all weekend but in third practice he was 0.666 seconds adrift of Sebastian Vettel, who in turn was nearly half a second behind his lighting quick team-mate Mark Webber. Driver error, traffic mayhem or interference from the skies might be Alonso's best hope of denying Red Bull pole - that or a little magic.

"I say this because Alonso, who turned 29 this week, is a big fan of card tricks.

"He was first taught them by his grandfather and now sometimes calls on his pop star wife Raquel del Rosario - who is here this weekend on one of her rare trips to a race - to be his glamorous assistant. Alonso reckons he has 25 tricks up his sleeve."

1210: Here comes 'The Chain' - and Jake and the team. Get involved.

BBC Sport's Sarah Holt on Twitter: "Nice and sunny and warm at the Hungaroring. I can't imagine it will be anything other than dry for qualifying from where I'm sitting."

1207: So, if you're just joining us, I can tell you that Red Bull look odds-on, white-hot, absolute stick-on favourites to secure pole position this afternoon given they emerged from third and final practice a full second faster than any of their rivals. Still, stranger things have happened, right? Ferrari's Fernando Alonso looks their biggest rival, while Renault's Robert Kubica and McLaren pair Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button look likely to battle it out behind that trio. As for the others - it looks like reaching Q3 could be the summit of the teams' aims.

CorazonLatino on 606: "Given their practice pace, I will be astonished if qualifying doesn't end with another Red Bull front row lock-out."

1200: Eh up, good of you to rejoin us. Our televisual pictures will commence in 10 minutes - but I can already provide you with this exclusive report: BBC One presenter Jake Humphrey has 'gone all F1' on us, by donning a pink shirt and tight white jeans. I can only deduce he's had to dip into David Coulthard's wardrobe as some sort of emergency measure. Anyway, you lot ready for qualifying? Of course you are.

1115: That's it then from final practice, and Red Bull will go into qualifying as white hot favourites for the front row again. Fernando Alonso looks the next fastest, with Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa, McLaren pair Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button and Renault's Robert Kubica battling it out with for honours behind that trio. Make sure you're back here at midday for all the pre-amble and then qualifying won't you? It promises to be a right Hungaroring treat.

BBC F1 commentator Jonathan Legard: "I have some technical updates for you. McLaren are persevering with their blown diffuser even though the drivers are having trouble managing the throttle to make maximum use of the exhaust gases going through such an important aerodynamic part. While Ferrari and Red Bull have abandoned their F-ducts for this weekend, Sauber are running theirs. Both Toro Rosso cars have updates on them. Force India have warm-up issues with the 'option' super-soft tyre - which most are finding is half a second faster than the 'prime' or medium rubber. Among the new teams, Hispania are apparently three months behind schedule on their 2011 programme, while Virgin are talking to new gearbox suppliers for next year."

BBC commentator Jonathan Legard on Twitter: "Stage set for great Red Bull shootout for pole. Like Monaco, Renault well up there with Ferrari. Struggle for Force India. Webber fastest."

BBC Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson: "Alonso doesn't look happy, but that's hardly surprising - in my mind, Ferrari have got a huge distance to make up, which I really didn't expect. They might be hiding something, but Red Bull are well on top."

Ferrari on Twitter: "Session finished. The Red Bulls look untouchable, but we're behind them."

BBC Radio 5 live commentator David Croft: "If Renault finish ahead of the two McLarens this weekend that is major grief for the championship leaders."

1103: Ominous, I believe is the word as regards to the Red Bulls pace. It all points to an absolute cake-walk in qualifying for Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel - who had traffic problems - this afternoon. Should practice prove a true reflection of the cars' pace, Fernando Alonso will be looking for a second-row start, while Robert Kubica will be pleased to see his Renault out-stripping McLaren pair Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, who finish the session sixth and ninth respectively. Work to do for the championship leaders, then, and lots of it.

1100: The chequered flag is out with a number of drivers completing their flying laps. Robert Kubica can't improve on his 1:21.066 and stays P4.

1059: Mark Webber goes even faster than his earlier time with a 1:19.574 - half a second up on Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel and more than a second up on Fernando Alonso in third.

1057: Traffic ruins what was looking a decent lap from Sebastian Vettel, but the Red Bulls pace is no secret to anyone. "It's the Red Bulls-Fernando Alonso-and then everyone else," says my colleague. Hard to argue with that.

1056: Fernando Alonso nearly a second off Mark Webber's time on the super-softs. That could be a worrying sign for the red cars' hopes of snatching pole.

1054: Jenson Button, fastest out of anyone in the first sector, again loses eons of time in the middle sector and that ruins his lap - he edges up to P4 with a 1:21.488 - more than 1.5 seconds off Mark Webber's pace-setting time of earlier. The likes of Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Robert Kubica now out for their final runs.

Ferrari on Twitter: "Fernando is ready to go for his run on soft tyres."

BBC F1 pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz: "Ferrari have swapped the wings on Felipe Massa's car - the new one has a hole where the other didn't. They've also made changes to the suspension and the front brake drums."

1051: With the Red Bulls, Ferraris and Renaults in the pits, Jenson Button takes the opportunity to go out a touch earlier, therefore avoiding traffic, to stick in a couple of flying laps. The British is out on a five-lap run on the super-softs in his McLaren.

Mercedes GP on Twitter: "A couple of practice pit stops and both cars are back in the garage... Nico currently P9 and Michael P12."

BBC Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson: "In general F1 has become a little bit too easy for the drivers when cars run off the circuit now - there's too much asphalt and not enough gravel traps. You should be punished if you make a mistake. Nobody wants to see a driver injured, but too many are getting away with driving errors."

Force India on Twitter: "We have picked up a driveshaft problem with Tonio's car so he will sit out the rest of the session while it is fixed so as not to risk any damage to the gearbox and hence grid penalty."

1044: Fastest time of the weekend from Mark Webber, the Red Bull positively flying around the Hungaroring in a 1:19.940.

1042: Mark Webber threatens to go top of the timings but the Australia loses time in the final sector to stay second fastest behind Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel, who has a 1:20.261. Felipe Massa is complaining of problems with his rear stability in his Ferrari, he is eighth fastest, with Robert Kubica now splitting McLaren pair Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton in his Renault with a 1:21.818.

Radio 5 live F1 commentator David Croft: "Mark Webber has been out-qualified by his team-mate in four straight races since Turkey, other than when Vettel had the grid penalty in Canada. Vettel has the momentum in that respect, and Webber may need to rethink his approach to qualifying." Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson in reply: "Possibly, but when it comes to the races Webber is older, wiser and possibly a little bit tougher. Vettel still gets a little bit flustered every now and then."

1037: McLaren's problems are clearly in the middle - and fastest of the Hungaroring's circuit - sector, here, Jenson Button losing almost a second on the leading Red Bulls through that as he goes fourth fastest with a 1:21.781. Everything says this is the Red Bulls to lose in qualifying.

1034: Fernando Alonso goes third fastest with a 1:21.708. Red Bulls leading the Ferraris, who lead the McLarens? I don't suppose anyone saw that coming.

1033: With less than half an hour to go in the session, Sebastian Vettel tops the time charts with a 1:20.261, nearly a second ahead of team-mate Mark Webber, who is second fastest. Next up come the McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, with Ferrari pair Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso just inside the top 10. The red cars are getting faster, though...

Ferrari on Twitter: "Fernando just went out and Felipe is going out as well, both on hard tyres."

Force India on Twitter: "'Lots of oversteer', reports Adrian Sutil, they will look at making some changes for the next run."

1028: As Anthony Davidson infers, below, Red Bull's front wing has raised more than a few eyebrows in the pits of late, and McLaren have broken cover in seeking clarification from Formula 1's governing body on its legality. McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has said it is "difficult for us to imagine" how some cars' wings could be legal. Controversy. Michael Schumacher, meanwhile, has a problem with his Mercedes, this time his rear wing apparently not working properly according to the team radio. "It's stable but not great," says his engineer.

BBC Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson: "It's been a stroke of genius on Red Bull's part to get the wing through the safety checks and regulations and out on to the track. But I've heard rumours about all sorts of things going on, including flexible floors…"

1024: Mark Webber gets round in 1:23.149 to go top of the charts with his first proper run - only to then be relegated back into second spot when Nico Hulkenberg posts a 1:22.686. The track rubbering in nicely now and we will see these times plummet in the next half hour or so, especially with Sebastian Vettel and both McLarens now out.

1021: Red Bull's Mark Webber flies out of the pits and it looks like he will be the first of the championship front-runners to set a flying lap. Nico Hulkenberg is currently the fastest man on the track with a 1:24.664 in his Williams.

1015: Virgin's Lucas di Grassi is the first man to set a full lap time 15 minutes into the session and it's a rather laboured 1:29.866 - understandable given track conditions.

Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne on Twitter: "Heikki going out early to make up for the lost laps yesterday. Practice launch to start the run."

f1fanatic_co_uk on Twitter: "Track silent 11 minutes in, drivers not keen to run on the slippery track. The state of the track could mean slower lap times to begin with. Vettel was fastest yesterday on a 1'20.087."

Ferrari on Twitter: "Both cars are without the blown rear wing: this configuration proved to be quicker in yesterday's sessions."

BBC commentator Jonathan Legard: "The Virgin team stayed at the track until 3am perfecting their car ahead of qualifying. It was a quick turnaround for the engineers to get back to work early on Saturday morning but things went awry when the team minibus had a flat tyre. Without a repair kit at hand, the engineers had to hail a taxi. So, it wasn't the best start to the day for Virgin - and let's hope it's not an omen for the rest of the day as Virgin feel they can get closer to their chief rivals Lotus this weekend."

1009: So Ferrari kicked off something of a sandstorm last week didn't they? The moment Felipe Massa allowed team-mate Fernando Alonso to pass him and go on to secure victory at the German Grand Prix, critics sharpened their tongues and friendlies collected their defence - and McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh is the latest man to enter the debate, saying team orders, currently banned in Formula 1, should in fact be legalised once again. "What teams do with their drivers should be for the teams to decide," said Whitmarsh at the Hungaroring. Thoughts?

1005: Sebastian Vettel tells his Red Bull team that the track is "not as good" as yesterday following overnight rain and the collection of dirt and concrete dust around Turns two and three, the German concluding that "it is not worth being the first cars out on track". Could be a wait before we see some proper times on the board, then.

1001: Final practice gets under way with Lotus's Heikki Kovalainen the first man out on the track, and Ferrari pair Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa also out and about early. One issue for the drivers to contend with in the early part of the session is a layer of concrete dust on the track following an earlier oil spill - nothing too grand to worry about, though.

BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Budapest: "Third practice, as always, is a chance for teams to fine-tune their cars ahead of qualifying - and all the build-up for that begins on BBC One at 1210 BST. Mark Webber called the pacesetting Red Bull 'faultless' after Friday practice. Fernando Alonso reports the Ferrari feels more competitive without the F-duct and the team, like Red Bull, have canned the aerodynamic device. McLaren say they are struggling for downforce - the magic ingredient at the Hungaroring - but Lewis Hamilton reckons they can eke out a few more 10ths of a second if they can perfect their set-up. Both Renaults, who seem suited to high downforce tracks, were in the top seven after successfully fitting a new front wing and updated diffuser. There were plenty of headaches for Mercedes, who have been juggling their aerodynamic updates, in particular the rear wing and floor. Michael Schumacher holds the record for most wins here after taking the flag four times but says things are not looking 'particularly good' at the moment."

0955: We now have live pictures and sound, with David Croft and Anthony Davidson leading the chat, so get involved folks. Bright skies above the Hungaroring, but apparently showers are a possibility for later in the session and/or for qualifying. BBC weatherman Ian Fergusson says it is "worth keeping an eye for later on the next cluster of heavy showers and thunderstorms just easing into south Hungary (now visible on radar)." Could make things interesting, no?

BBC presenter Jake Humphrey: "Today - Quali live, we look back at Ferrari in Germany, Frank Williams, Nigel Mansell, news, flexi-front wings and lots besides...1210 (BST) BBC1."

BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Budapest: "Hello again. Overnight rain at the Hungaroring has given the track a good wash but it's drying up nicely under the sunny skies ahead of third practice.

"The sunshine seems to have put everyone in good spirits; DC has even been merrily ironing his shirt at BBC HQ. Organisers of the Hungarian Grand Prix are celebrating its 25th anniversary on the F1 calendar and served up a super-sized iced chocolate cake to the drivers and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone after Friday practice.

"All the drivers were striding through the paddock with plates piled with huge slabs of the stuff. Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi was desperate to get rid of his; saying 'If I eat it, it's four tenths in qualifying.'"

BBC commentator Jonathan Legard on Twitter: "Those hoping for wet qualifying set to be disappointed. Sun forecast for today and tomorrow. Red Bull clear Saturday favourites."

0937: Welcome, then, to final practice ahead of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. With the season entering the business end, Red Bull and Ferrari are the form teams, McLaren are just about hanging on to their leads in both the drivers' and constructors' championships, Mercedes and Renault are striving desperately to hang on to the leading three teams' coat-tails, and the rest are involved very much in a mid-table battle for respectability. Fair? Let's see what Super Saturday brings at Hungaroring in Budapest.
