Australian businessman and Formula 3000 team owner Paul Stoddart rescues the popular but cash-strapped Minardi team in 2001
Australian Mark Webber finishes fifth in his debut race in Melbourne and gives Stoddart something to celebrate in 2002 but in the following three seasons Minardi finish rock bottom in the standings
Despite having his hands on one team, Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz decides to buy another and snaps up Minardi in 2005
Former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger then buys 50% of the team to become joint owner while Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed are chosen as drivers as the team prepares to make its debut in 2006
Liuzzi benefits from the knock-on effects of two big accidents in the US Grand Prix and crosses the line in eighth to win Toro Rosso's first point - but it is the only point the Italian team will win all season
Toro Rosso are powered by Ferrari in 2007 but are way off track, retiring 13 times in the first 10 races because of poor reliability
Speed's F1 career comes to an abrupt end after a bust-up with team boss Franz Tost at the European GP and the American is replaced by promising German Sebastian Vettel for the rest of the 2007 campaign
Toro Rosso finish 2007 on a high as Vettel finishes fourth at a wet Chinese Grand Prix and Liuzzi follows in sixth for a record points haul
New recruit Sebastien Bourdais gets his F1 career off to a good start by finishing seventh in the Australian Grand Prix - but it doesn't get better than that for the Frenchman for the rest of 2008
Vettel's star continues to rise and the German collects the team's first pole at Monza and makes it count by storming to a shock first Grand Prix victory for Toro Rosso at the Italian GP
A breakthrough season sees Toro Rosso finish sixth in the constructors' championship above parent company Red Bull
More changes for 2009 see Vettel and Berger leave Toro Rosso and new driver Sebastien Buemi (pictured) arrive while Mateschitz puts the team up for sale saying he has to sell by 2010
