Rebels play-off hopes on the line

Somerset Rebels
A place in the play-offs would give the Rebels the chance of promotion

Somerset Rebels are about to embark on the two most important matches in their season as they look to hang on to a play-off spot in the Premier League.

The speedway outfit travel to Sheffield, who are one place and three points below them in fifth but with a match in hand, on Thursday.

However the Rebels have won away just once this season in the Premier League against bottom-placed Newport.

The following day Somerset entertain Scunthorpe at the Oak Tree Arena.

Their last two matches saw them win at home against Newport and lose away to Edinburgh.

Should the Rebels not make the top four then they will compete in the Young Shield competition for the teams that finish fifth to 12th in the Premier League.

But if they manage to get hold on to their current position then they will go into the play-offs, the winner of which will have the opportunity to earn promotion to the Elite League.
