Cart returns to Road America

Road America is widely regarded as the best racing surface in the US

The Road America race has been reinstated to the Cart calendar after an agreement was reached with the course for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

The race was dropped from the Cart schedule six weeks ago after a row over money but will now take place as originally planned on 3 August in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The event will be renamed the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America in honour of the former Indianapolis 500 and Formula One champion who helped broker the deal after a dispute which had threatened to end up in court.

It will be the 22nd time Cart has raced at Road America in the track's 49th season of existence.

"Road America has always been one of the premier tracks in the United States and is probably the most popular venue among the drivers on the Cart Champ Car circuit," said Andretti, who won three Road America events.

"It was a track that we needed to have on our schedule to maintain the series standing as the truest challenge in open-wheel racing."
