Frentzen sacked by Jordan
Heinz-Harald Frentzen
Frentzen has scored just six points this season
Formula One driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen has been sacked by the Jordan team.

Jordan's third driver Ricardo Zonta will replace Frentzen for the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim this weekend.

Frentzen has scored only six points this season and has been outqualified by team-mate Jarno Trulli nine times in 10 races.

The 34-year-old is currently 11th in the drivers' standings and has not finished in the points since April.

"The contract between Jordan and Heinz-Harald Frentzen has been cancelled with immediate effect," a company spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Matters appear to have come to a head at Silverstone last weekend where the 34-year-old German finished seventh.

"It has been a disappointing season for both of us. We had an exchange of views after the British Grand Prix and this is the result," team boss Eddie Jordan was quoted as saying.

Lawyers consulted

In a statement Frentzen said that he rejected Jordan's grounds for his dismissal.

"The reasons I have been given for this termination I contest in their entirety. My position in this matter is now under legal advice.

  Frentzen's F1 career
1994: Joins Sauber - finishes 13th (7 pts)
1995: Finishes ninth (15 pts)
1996: Finishes 12th (7 pts)
1997: Joins Williams - finishes second (42 pts) and has first GP win at Imola.
1998: Finishes equal seventh (17 pts)
1999: Joins Jordan - finishes third (54 pts)
2000: Finishes ninth (11pts)

"Due to the current situation, I am unable to make any further comment whatsoever at this time."

Frentzen joined Jordan in 1999 from Williams in a straight switch with Ralf Schumacher.

He had been runner-up in the 1997 championship to Williams' team-mate Jacques Villeneuve.

In his first season with Jordan, he finished third in the title race but finished ninth last year when Jordan suffered severe reliability problems.

There had been speculation linking Frentzen to Toyota ahead of the Japanese team's debut in 2002 but the German renewed his contract with Jordan last month.
