Wasps 28-31 Stade Francais

Italian international Diego Dominguez equalled a Heineken Cup record of eight penalties to end Wasps' hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The Loftus Road side are trailing Swansea and Stade Francais in Pool 2 after a third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

However, Wasps can take heart from a spirited performance. They were never out of the game and were constantly breathing down the visitors' necks.

Kenny Logan got the ball rolling in gusty conditions with three consecutive penalties in nine minutes before Dominguez matched his efforts and then went one better by kicking four.

Scottish international Logan added another three points to draw the two sides level at 12 apiece only for French centre Franck Comba to score the first try of the afternoon after 33 minutes.

His score came following another commanding display by Dominguez, the Italian who has been capped 61 times by his country, and winger Brian Lima. Dominguez duly converted.

In-form Logan, however, kept Wasps in the hunt at the break by kicking another two penalties to make it 19-18 after 40 minutes.

But Stade Francais carried their menacing form into the second half.

Dominguez immediately added to his haul by converting another four penalties to Logan's one.

Wasps hit back and clearly had no plans to take defeat lying down after a constant barrage of attack on Stade Francais' line.

And with the visitors going a man down after the sin-binning of Pablo Lemoine, Wasps were rewarded for their brave efforts with a 78th-minute try by skipper Mark Denney.

Logan converted to take Wasps within three points of Stade Francais.

But despite the home side's gallant late efforts the French club completed a double over their opponents by the skin of their teeth with Dominguez's haul of 26 points earning him the man of the match award.
