Longmuir harbours US Open dream

Bill Longmuir
Longmuir must make the cut in Ohio to play in the US Open qualifiers

Bill Longmuir is aiming to qualify for the US Open in June, nine years after he last played a European Tour event.

The 55-year-old Scot, who 30 years ago led The Open at Lytham after an opening 65, has entered next Monday's 36-hole tournament at Walton Heath.

He will only be able to play if he misses the halfway cut in this week's US Senior PGA Championship in Ohio.

Longmuir said: "I'd love the chance. I've never played a US Open and it's a dream I've had all my life."

"I live near Walton Heath and this might be the last chance I have."

The veteran is eligible for final qualifying through finishing in the top five of the European Seniors Tour last season.

Colin Montgomerie is also set to play there unless he can earn an exempt spot at this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
