Robert Gamez ended a USPGA Tour-record 15-year winless streak on Sunday when he fired a final-round six-under 64 to take the Texas Open by three strokes.

The 37-year-old had led on day one and his 18-under 262 total returned him to the top spot at LaCantera in time to claim his first success in 394 events.

Deutsche Bank Championship winner Olin Browne also shot a 64 to finish in second place on 15-under-par 265.

Overnight leader Woody Austin and Mark Wilson were joint third on 14 under.

Former world number one David Duval, who made his first cut of the year on Friday, had a closing four-over 74 and tied for 60th on one-over 281, 19 shots off the lead.

Englishman John Morgan fared a little better - he made par (70) in his final round to finish a few spots above Duval on four-under 276.

Gamez said: "I was ready for today and started really quick.

"I hit it good all day and it's a great feeling. It has been a long time coming.

"I've been close a lot over that stretch of time. To come all the way back and be a champion again, I'm just tickled to death."
