Woods eyes another record
Tiger Woods
Woods could win a fifth straight PGA Tour money title.
Tiger Woods can equal one of the oldest records in golf this week if he makes the cut in the Funai Classic in Florida.

If Woods makes it to the weekend he will tie Byron Nelson's record of 113 consecutive cuts, set in the 1940s.

Also at stake is a chance for Woods to win an unprecedented fifth straight PGA Tour money title.

He has a $US171,239 lead over Vijay Singh, although the Fijian plans to play in one more tournament than Woods.

It's more of a fun week. The only difference is you have to shoot six under to make the cut.

But despite the importance of the tournament, Woods has given his caddie, Steve Williams, the week off.

He will instead be accompanied around the course at Disney by an old school friend, Byron Bell.

It is not the first time that Bell has carried the bag so Woods is not expecting the change to make any much difference.

"I've had Bryon caddie for me before," Woods said.

"It's more of a fun week. The only difference is you have to shoot six under to make the cut."

The last time Bell caddied for Woods was at the 2000 Buick Invitational. That was another big week, as Woods had the longest PGA Tour winning streak in 52 years.

Going for his seventh win in a row, Woods finished runner-up to Phil Mickelson.

But Bell did caddie for Woods when he won the Match Play Championship in 1999.

He was also with him when Woods won his record third consecutive US Amateur title in 1996.

Woods is confident he will top the money list this season, even though Singh will play more tournaments.

He said after the first round of the American Express Championship in Atlanta earlier this month that he would not add another tournament for the sake of winning the money title.

He then went on to win his second World Golf Championship of the year to reclaim the number one spot on the money list.
