PLAYER-RATER - Robin van Persie finishes as the undisputed man of the match, with a remarkable rating of 8.99. Bakari Kone finished on 8.6, along with Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba.

"It was a really enjoyable game to watch with two teams prepared to attack and go for the win. Ivory Coast have come to their first World Cup and acquitted themselves so well, but it is Holland who go through."
Graham Taylor, Five Live Sport

Full-time: Holland 2-1 Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast are out of the World Cup at the first hurdle after two brave defeats to Argentina and Holland. The Dutch derserve their victory for trying to play football even when they could have tried to hold on to their lead.

90 mins + 4: Khalid Boulahrouz is cautioned by the referee.

90 mins + 3: A cross is played deep into the Holland box but it somehow manages to avoid everyone.

90 mins + 2: Kolo Toure tries his luck from 25 yards, but it is deflected behind for a corner, which is wasted by the Ivorians.

90 mins: Three minutes of injury time - score now, or Ivory Coast are on their way home.

88 mins: Holland are keeping the ball in the Ivory Coast half and the African side now look like they are going out of the tournament.

85 mins: Arjen Robben suddenly bursts into life and cuts in from the right flank, but his shot is high and he should have played in Rafael van der Vaart in a better, more central position.

83 mins: Didier Zokora is left clutching his knee after a tough challenge from Robin van Persie.

80 mins: Didier Drogba tries to burst between two Dutch defenders using his immense pace and power, but Andre Ooijer gets in a fabulous tackle.

77 mins: Holland survive, but only just. Didier Drogba heads a corner back across goal and Robin van Persie chests it off the line before Phillip Cocu clears the ball away from Abdoulaye Meite as he seems set to score.

77 mins: Emmanuel Eboue goes down theatrically in the penalty area and is lucky to win a corner instead of a booking.

PLAYER-RATER - Robin van Persie continues to impress, with an average rating of 8.98 for the Arsenal star so far.

73 mins: Holland take off Ruud van Nistelrooy and bring on midfielder Denny Landzaat, while Ivory Coast replace Arouna Kone with Kanga Akale.

73 mins: Gilles Yapi Yapo takes an age to create a chance for himself inside the Holland area, but his shot is eventually, unsurprisingly, blocked.

70 mins: Holland waste a great chance to go 3-1 ahead, Arjen Robben seeing a shot saved by Jean-Jacques Tizie and then Ruud van Nistelrooy selfishly trying to create a chance for himself instead of passing back to an unmarked Rafael van der Vaart.

67 mins: Rafael van der Vaart sees his stinging free-kick hit the wall.

66 mins: Arthur Boka is booked for a cynical trip on Robin van Persie as the Arsenal striker burst through, but Kolo Toure was covering so Boka avoids a straight red.

63 mins: "There is real tension inside the ground. The match has been so gripping that the first Mexican wave did not break out until the 57th minute - and as soon as it reached the section seating most of the Dutch fans it came to an abrupt end."
Paul Fletcher, BBC Sport in Stuttgart

62 mins: Knowing that if they lose they are out, Ivory Coast go for it with a make-or-break double sustitution. Aruna Dindane and Gilles Yapi Yapo come on for Bakari Kone and Ndri Romaric.

60 mins: "Arouna Kone's so excitable in front of goal and he could have taken his time there, he didn't need to hit it so quickly. I just hope their chances don't keep falling to him."
Graham Taylor, BBC Five Live summariser

58 mins: Arouna Kone gets on the end of a lovely passing move by the confident Ivorians, but the bleach-haired striker loses his composure and footing and lashes it over the bar.

58 mins: Mark van Bommel is booked for a nothing challenge on Didier Zokora.

55 mins: The Ivorians have started the second half with attacking intent and Abdoulaye Meite cracks one in from 25 yards that goes straight into the arms of Edwin van der Sar.

54 mins: Dider Zokora is apparently wanted by a host of Premiership clubs and you can see why. He is beginning to exert real authority in the midfield area and is even showing off with some showboating too.

51 mins: Ruud van Nistelrooy tries his luck from outside the area, forcing Jean-Jacques Tizie to scramble away to his left to make the regulation save.

50 mins: A second change for the Dutch, and it is midfield general Rafael van der Vaart who comes on for his first taste of World Cup action, replacing Wesley Sneijder.

50 mins: Kolo Toure fires in a free-kick from 30 yards that Edwin van der Sar comfortably gathers.

47 mins: The relentless pace of the game continues after the interval and Arouna Kone sees a left-foot shot deflected into the arms of Edwin van der Sar.

46 mins: Holland make a change at the break as Johnny Heitinga is replaced by Khalid Boulahrouz.

PLAYER-RATER - So far, you think Robin van Persie is the game's outstanding player, with an average rating of nearly nine.

Half-time: Holland 2-1 Ivory Coast
A magnificent 45 minutes ends, with the Ivorians showing fabulous spirit and no little skill to get back into the game after Holland's early show of total football.

45 mins + 1: Arouna Kona has a clear chance from 18 yards but he skies his shot after Didier Drogba had made a nuisance of himself again.

44 mins: With defenders at a premium Robin van Persie finds himself in space again in the Ivory Coast area, but his right-foot effort is parried away by Jean-Jacques Tizie.

42 mins: The booking might just have thrown Didier Drogba off his game. The captain breaks into the Dutch half and has Arouna Kone for company with only one Dutch defender back - but Gio van Bronckhorst makes a fabulous interception and denies Kone a clean run through on goal.

41 mins: Didier Drogba is booked and will miss the Ivorians' last group game against Serbia & Montenegro. It is a terrible refereeing decision after Drogba barely touched Edwin van der Sar and will deprive the tournament of one of it's biggest attractions.

38 mins: GOAL Holland 2-1 Ivory Coast
Bakari Kone scores one of the goals of the tournament, a truly sensational strike from the Nive player, who sprinted past two Dutch players and struck a stunning drive that flew into Edwin van der Sar's top corner.

36 mins: "All Holland's outfield players except for Mark van Bommel joined Ruud van Nistelrooy in celebrating his goal.

Van Bommel ran straight to Marco van Basten and listened to instructions while taking the opportunity to drink some liquid.

Van Bommel and Phillip Cocu have been playing in deep midfield for Holland and have not been afraid to establish their authority against the physical Ivorians."
Paul Fletcher, BBC Sport in Stuttgart

36 mins: Didier Drogba heads over from a right-wing set-piece, though he was slightly unlucky that Andre Ooijer had got a touch just before it reached him.

34 mins: Arjen Robben is booked for an alleged dive in the penalty area, which seems a harsh decision on the Chelsea winger after he had been unceremoniously dumped to the floor by two defenders.

33 mins: So, so close to getting the Ivorians back in this game. Didier Zokora picks it up 25 yards out and unleashes a thunderous drive that rockets off the angle of post and crossbar and flies away.

32 mins: Didier Drogba is trying his best to get Ivory Coast going, keeping his feet brilliantly under huge pressure in the box and attempting an audacious flick-up to try and create some space, but the Dutch clear their lines.

27 mins: GOAL Holland 2-0 Ivory Coast
Arjen Robben makes the most of some woeful defending with the Ivorians caught out of position to play in Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Manchester United striker coolly slotting home from 14 yards.

24 mins: A double Dutch celebration, as goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has now gone a remarkable 1000 minutes without conceding a goal in competitive international football.

23 mins: GOAL Holland 1-0 Ivory Coast
He set it up, he scored it. A moment of brilliance from Robin van Persie gives the Dutch a first-half lead, the striker curling home the set-piece from 22 yards into the top corner beyond the reach of Jean-Jacques Tizie.

22 mins: Robin van Persie steps it up for the Dutch with a pacy, direct run at the Ivory Coast defence and his Arsenal team-mate Kolo Toure brings him down on the edge of the area.

20 mins: "It's not often you see Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue shown a clean pair of heels, but Arjen Robben did that a couple of minutes ago. Shame he couldn't get a cross in, too."
Graham Taylor, BBC Five Live summariser

18 mins: The Dutch are starting to get pinned back and Didier Drogba heads down for marauding left-back Arthur Boka to drill a shot wide.

17 mins: Arouna Kone shows good strength to shrug off Gio van Bronckhorst inside the penalty box but the angle is too tight and his hopeful shot flashes into the side-netting.

16 mins: Ivory Coast work some space down the Dutch right and it falls to Ndri Romaric 20 yards out, but his shot is easily gathered by Edwin van der Sar.

13 mins: Emmanuel Eboue looks for a penalty as Gio van Bronckhorst tussles with him in the penalty box, but the Colombian referee waves away his claims.

12 mins: Bakari Kone tries to create some space to have a shot on the edge of the box but his effort is blocked.

10 mins: The Dutch fans are making most of the noise and they have most to cheer about as their team enjoys large spells of possession, though Ivory Coast are defending stoutly at the moment.

5 mins: Robin van Persie feeds Mark van Bommel just outside the area on the right and the Barcelona midfielder's cross is agonisingly out of reach of Ruud van Nistelrooy's head in the box.

4 mins: Been here before, Manchester City fans? Didier Drogba uses his left hand to control a long through ball and referee Oscar Ruiz fails to spot the infringement - but Drogba wastes his cross anyway.

2 mins: The Dutch got us under way, and they have barely allowed the Ivorians a touch yet.

1700 BST: Friday's second Group C encounter kicks off in the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart.

1657 BST: As the Ivorian anthem blares out, striker, captain and national icon Didier Drogba fixes his gaze on something on the crowd. The Chelsea hitman looks like he means business - which could mean a torrid afternoon for Andre Ooijer and Joris Mathijsen.

1655 BST: "Ivory Coast are one of the best African sides we've seen over the last few years - we saw how Argentina just played and the Ivorians really gave them a game last week. I've a sneaky feeling they might get something here."
Graham Taylor, BBC Five Live summariser

1630 BST: "Stuttgart has turned orange, with supporters from both Holland and the Ivory Coast wearing their team's colours.

It is another sweltering day in Germany and Holland fans in particular have been arriving in Stuttgart en masse since early morning.

There is a wonderful atmosphere around the ground but several Dutch fans I talked to admitted to feeling a little nervous. With rampant Argentina next they know the importance of winning this game."
Paul Fletcher, BBC Sport in Stuttgart

1605 BST: Holland stick with the same team that secured a 1-0 win over Serbia and Montenegro in their opening game.

Midfielder Rafael van der Vaart remains on the bench even though he has fully recovered from an ankle injury.

Ivory Coast make three changes, with Ndri Romaric and Bakari Kone coming into the midfield.

Meanwhile up front, Arouna Kone is in the side to partner Didier Drogba for a game the Ivorians need to win.

Holland: Van der Sar, Heitinga, Ooijer, Mathijsen, Van Bronckhorst, Van Bommel, Sneijder, Cocu, Van Persie, Van Nistelrooy, Robben.

Ivory Coast: Tizie, Eboue, Kolo Toure, Meite, Boka, Zokora, Gneri Yaya Toure, Romaric, Arouna Kone, Bakari Kone, Drogba.

Referee: Julian Oscar Ruiz Acosta (Colombia).
