Leeds Carnegie Ladies winger Sue Smith says the club will use their off-the-field problems as motivation to win the Premier League Cup Final on Thursday.

The club's future is in doubt after their backers, Leeds Metropolitan University, withdrew their application for the proposed new Super League.

"Out team spirit is superb and it's got us through this tough time," Smith told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We want to win even more now because of what has happened."

The University, who saved the club after their split from Leeds United, took the decision to withdraw their Super League bid citing finical reasons.

It means if the club survives most of their players will be forced to leave in order to keep playing professional football.

Smith added: "We've got to lots of finals before and not been able to win so we are desperate to do it this time.

"If this is to be our last season as Leeds we want to do as well as we can and that is spurring us on.

"We have to stick together as a team for the rest of the season and just do as well as we can and then tackle the future after that."

Despite being an Evertonian, Smith says she will not have split loyalties on Thursday night.

"It is all about Leeds on Thursday night for me. I support the men's side not the women. My Dad's a huge Everton fan and he's coming to the game, so he might find it hard who to support."
