Yeovil want Vale striker Rodgers

Luke Rodgers
Rodgers has scored five goals for the Valiants this season

Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade says he wants to sign Port Vale striker Luke Rodgers, but Vale boss Dean Glover has said the move has stalled.

Slade told BBC Radio Somerset: "He's certainly a threat and he's a goal scorer and that adds the sort of competition that I am looking for."

However Vale manager Dean Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "Luke is frustrated because he is out of the team.

"All he wants to do is play games but I don't think the move will happen."

It had been thought that Rodgers would initially move to Huish Park on loan with a view to a permanent deal, but the clubs are yet to agree on a transfer fee.

"There was a dialogue between the two clubs. We need a conclusion. We need it rapidly otherwise I will move on," said Slade.

Rodgers, 26, joined the Valiants from Crewe Alexandra in January 2007 and has scored 20 goals in 66 appearances for the Burslem side.

"We obviously don't want to lose a player of Luke's quality," said Glover.

"But it is an opportunity for him to play in a higher division and players are always looking to better themselves.

"For the minute the situation has died down and depending on what happens with Yeovil we will look at it again later in the week," Glover added.
