Karl Henry apologises to Wolves for Jordi Gomez tackle

Wolves captain Karl Henry has apologised to his club for his sending off in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Wigan.

The 27-year-old was dismissed after 11 minutes at the DW Stadium for a wild lunge on midfielder Jordi Gomez.

"Having watched it again I can see that it looks horrific and realise that it was a deserved red card," he told the club website.

"I've already apologised to the manager and the boys, but I'd also like to apologise to the supporters."

Henry has been no stranger to controversy this season, having been involved in a series of physical exchanges with Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton when the teams met at Molineux in August.

He was then involved in the challenge which broke the leg of Fulham striker Bobby Zamora on 11 September, although he was exonerated of any blame for the injury.

Gomez recovered from the tackle to score the opening goal mid-way through the second half with a stunning set-piece, before Hugo Rodallega sealed a comfortable victory for the Latics late on.

Henry's team-mate, striker Kevin Doyle, told BBC WM: "We're going to have times during the season when we're down to 10 men. We looked like we could cope with it but a quality free-kick was the difference."

Wolves are, along with West Ham, bottom of the Premier League table with five points from seven matches.

The two sides are due to meet at Molineux after the international break on 16 October.

Doyle added: "West Ham will be a big game, but then the one after that will be a big game. Every one we played last season seemed to be a big game.

"It will be a home game for us, a good chance to put this behind us and get back to winning ways."
