Wolves captain Karl Henry has rejected claims he tried to injure Bobby Zamora after the Fulham striker broke his leg in a challenge on Saturday.

Surgery revealed Zamora, 29, had also damaged ankle ligaments and he is expected to be out for four months.

Referee Phil Dowd did not award a free-kick and Henry told the Wolves website: "I felt it was a good tackle.

"I didn't do anything deliberately and I would never try to deliberately hurt anyone. I'm sorry the damage was done."

Fulham won the match 2-1 with an injury-time goal by Moussa Dembele, but the victory was overshadowed by the first-half injury to Zamora, who had recently recovered from a thigh injury and was playing his first game since signing a new four-year deal with the Cottagers.

Midfielder Henry touched the ball first in tackling Zamora, but the striker's right leg was trapped between Henry's legs as he went down.

He was immediately in obvious pain, and received oxygen before being taken off on a stretcher with h is right leg immobilised.

Both Fulham manager Mark Hughes and his Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy had no complaints over the severity of the challenge, although Hughes felt a foul should have been given.

And Henry maintained he did not set out to harm Zamora.

"I know Bobby, we've got the same agent and we were away with the England Under-21s together," the Wolves skipper added.

"I tried to win the ball but I could see he was in agony and called their physio.

"There was certainly nothing from me, that I tried to 'do' him which a few of their players were suggesting.

"I don't want to hear it from another professional that I've gone out to try and 'do' someone.

"I'm sure they will see it as a fair tackle and I've gone to win the ball."
