Woking boss wants Weymouth review

Phil Gilchrist
Gilchrist thinks the Weymouth situation is "unfair" on rival clubs

Woking manager Phil Gilchrist says the plight of fellow Blue Square Premier side Weymouth should be investigated.

The Terras, in financial dire straits, were forced to field a team comprising of youth players in Saturday's 9-0 defeat by Rushden & Diamonds.

Gilchrist told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "The League is going to have to look into this, it has changed the playing field.

"You cannot field an Under-18 team in the game."

Gilchrist added: "Maybe there is a situation that is not [manager] Alan Lewer's fault, but something has to be done because we had two hard games against Weymouth.

"From now on in, if things stay the way they are, Weymouth won't be the hard game for everybody else that they were for us."

Woking, fighting for their lives in the Blue Square Premier, have lost their last three games 1-0.

They are languishing in 20th place, just one point above the relegation spots, with teams below them having up to four games in hand.

Gilchrist continued: "I have to probably be careful what I say but it makes the league a bit unfair now between now and the end of the season.

"Maybe Weymouth are doing it for the right reasons, I'm not having a go at them as a football club.

"I just think the situation for all the other clubs that are involved in this relegation scrap, and if they've got to play some of the promotion ones as well, goal difference might come into it.

"At the end of the day I don't think it's fair on the league."
