Tottenham striker Helder Postiga would have been better off staying with Porto rather than moving to White Hart Lane, claims his Portuguese team-mate Deco.

Postiga, who joined Spurs for £6.25m from Porto a year ago, struggled to adapt to life in the Premiership but has shone for Portugal at Euro 2004.

Deco played with Postiga at Porto and the pair won the Uefa Cup together.

"Postiga is a wonderful striker. Maybe he should have stayed in Portugal one or two more years," said Deco.

Postiga impressed when he came on as a substitute against England and scored Portugal's equaliser in the quarter-final.

"Against England he showed his class and quality. I think he's going to become one of the best strikers in Europe in the next few years," Deco said.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Deco has attracted interest from Barcelona and is unlikely to link up with his former coach Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, according to Porto president Jorge Pinto da Costa.

"All I know is that according to his agent Barcelona is one of the clubs interested in him.

"I think that Chelsea are out of the race because Deco would prefer to go to either Barcelona or to Bayern Munich," said da Costa.

Deco refused to comment on da Costa's view saying it was "not the proper moment to talk about my future".

The Brazilian-born striker said: "I will make a decision after the European Championships because my priority right now is on this tournament."
