Cornforth is named Torquay boss
John Cornforth
John Cornforth has a contract until the end of the season
John Cornforth has been confirmed as manager of Torquay United until the end of the season.

Former Wales midfielder Cornforth took over as caretaker boss at Plainmoor when Leroy Rosenior left in January and has won four points from his two games.

Chairman Mike Bateson said: "I hope before the end of the season to have secured our Football League status and agreed a longer deal with him.

"There was stiff competition with more than 80 applicants for the job."

The Gulls secured their first win of 2006 when they beat Shrewsbury on Saturday and earned a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Stockport on Tuesday night.

Torquay are third from bottom in the League Two table after being relegated last season.
