Swansea defender Kevin Austin has joined League Two side Chesterfield on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old passed a medical at Saltergate on Thursday before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Left-back Austin joined the Swans from Bristol Rovers four years ago and has made 150 league and cup appearances.

He played a part in this season's promotion to the Championship, and had the option to take up another year's contract, but he chose to leave.

"He has been a fantastic servant for this club,'' said manager Roberto Martinez.

"Although we could have kept him for another year, we felt the least he deserved as a reward for his loyalty, service and effort was the chance of securing himself a two-year deal.

"Kevin is the ultimate professional and I'm sure he has more than two good years left in him at Football League level.

"He will certainly a big asset for Chesterfield.''

Austin said: "When I signed for the club four years ago I never expected it to turn out the way it did.

"But to experience two promotions, two trips to the Millennium Stadium and success in the FAW Premier Cup was beyond my wildest dreams.

"I will leave Swansea with some great memories of the club and the fans, but I still feel in good nick and I am not ready to hang up my boots just yet."

And Spireites boss, Lee Richardson is delighted with his latest capture.

He said: "I am really delighted that Kevin has agreed to join us as he is another player who will bring much-needed experience into the squad.

"He was highly thought of by Swansea City so I am really pleased they were able to agree to his release."
