New Sunderland deal for Whitehead
Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead has been rewarded with a new deal which will keep him at the Stadium of Light until June 2008.

Whitehead joined the Black Cats on an initial three-year contract from Oxford United last summer in a 150,000 deal.

The 23-year-old was told he would be given a 12-month extension if he impressed on Wearside.

Whitehead has started 30 Championship games to help Sunderland into the automatic promotion places.
