Manager Gus MacPherson hails four-star St Mirren

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson praised his side's performance following a memorable 4-0 win at home to Celtic in the league.

"I thought the players were outstanding," said MacPherson.

"They've been playing well in recent months, and we've created chances - but we've not taken them. But tonight, we took them at crucial times."

"Paul Gallacher had some saves at key moments in the first half, but the quality of the goals was top-notch."

Andy Dorman and Steven Thomson each netted a brace as the Buddies sunk Celtic to banish the painful memories of Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final defeat.

Indeed, MacPherson pointed towards the loss to nine-man Rangers at Hampden as a key motivator in turning in such a good performance against Tony Mowbray's side.

"Of course, if there's a disappointment, you look for a reaction," explained MacPherson.

"But we told the players just to use it as their motivation and it was there for everyone to see.

"It's a credit to every single one of the players.

"What they've had to go through in the last few months has been testing for them, and they came through it with a fantastic performance."

The win lifts the Paisley side five points clear of bottom side Falkirk.
