'Villain' Scotland hails Utd fans
Jason Scotland celebrates his goal against Dundee United
Jason Scotland scored St Johnstone's opening goal
Jason Scotland has thanked Dundee United fans for giving him a good reception - despite coming back to haunt them in the CIS Insurance Cup.

The former United striker scored the opening goal in St Johnstone's surprise 3-0 third-round victory.

And the 27-year-old said: "I wasn't worried that the fans would boo me.

"I always got on well with them and I was very happy that they gave me a good reception during the warm-up. Now we're on an adventure in the quarter-finals."

Scotland spent two years years at Tannadice until a legal wrangle last season led to the rejection by the Scottish Football Association's appeals panel of his request for a renewed work permit.

But First Division St Johnstone managed to keep him in the country and have been rewarded this season by the Trinidad & Tobago international's form.
We have a very good partnership up front and they showed their class

St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle

"It's a great thing to get a cup run going," he said.

"We enjoyed the game, but we're back to the league with a massive match against Livingston this weekend.

"Nobody here is getting ahead of themselves.

"We know we are a good team and are capable of playing at a higher level, but to prove that we need to do it in the league every week, so that's got to be our main focus."

Scotland hailed his strike partner Steven Milne, who also scored against the Scottish Premier League side.

And both were praised by manager Owen Coyle.

"We have a very good partnership up front and they showed their class," he said.

"I was thrilled with the performance.

"We showed energy and enthusiasm right from the first minute and carried that throughout the game.

"When Jason scored, it put us on the front foot.

"And, although United had chances, we were the better side and their goalkeeper pulled off some magnificent saves."
