Southport captain Adam Flynn believes home advantage will help his side overcome Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup first round on Sunday.

A crowd of 6,000 is expected at Haig Avenue for the tie with the Owls.

The 26-year-old told BBC Radio Merseyside: "With us being at home, we've got that extra chance to go out there and beat them.

"We respect everyone in our league, they'll get the same respect and we'll go out there and give it a good go."

He added: "Hopefully we will win the game and I have every confidence we can win it. First of all we've got to get through the 90 minutes and we must just concentrate on that. "

The Sandgrounders defence has been frugal in the league this campaign, and they have not lost a game by more than one goal so far.

The Liverpool youth academy coach believes they need to use their strength at the back to their advantage.

"We've just got to keep it solid throughout," continued Flynn. "We were a bit lackadaisical in the game on Friday night against Kidderminster Harriers and we suffered for it at our level.

"So, you'd like to think these guys are more clinical and would punish you for the slightest mistake. So we've got to be on our metal for the full 90 minutes."

Along with the bumper crowd on Sunday, national TV cameras will be broadcasting the game live, something which does not faze the centre-back.

"There's going to be a lot of people watching and a couple of million watching on the TV - where better to show your talents?," said Flynn.

"This is were we all wanted to be, we wanted to be full-time footballers and we wanted to play on the biggest stage possible.

"We've all found our level now and maybe some people can move on. But you have to take your chances when they come along and this is massive chance for most of our players to go and show what they've got."
