Southampton have wrapped up the signing of Portuguese defender Pele on a three-year contract.
The 28-year-old centre-half has joined the Saints for an undisclosed fee from Portuguese club Belenenses.
Pele, who had drawn interest from Saints rivals Portsmouth, becomes Southampton boss George Burley's fifth signing this summer.
"I have seen a lot of the English game and think I will fit in well," Pele told the club's website.
"Southampton are a big club who should be playing in the Premier League and I hope I can help them get back there this season."
Manager Burley is equally pleased with his new recruit. He said: "I am very pleased to have got him.
"He will stay in Southampton at the moment to work on his fitness because that comes before matches and he has only trained for a week so far."
