Shrewsbury Town are set to sign central defender Richard Hope from League Two rivals Chester City.
Hope has previously played for York, Northampton and Darlington
Hope has 12 months remaining on his Chester contract, but is being allowed to move to Gay Meadow as he does not figure in boss Keith Curle's plans.
"It is likely that everything will be completed in the next 24 hours," Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan told the Daily Post.
Hope, 26, started 29 games for Chester last season after joining from York.
He previously served Northampton and Darlington.
