Sparrow is targeting silverware

Scunthorpe United midfielder Matt Sparrow is hoping for silverware in his testimonial year by winning this season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Sparrow, 25, was a youth player when the Iron played at Wembley in the 1999 Third Division play-off final.

Sparrow told BBC Look North: "I was born in Wembley but moved up here at an early age.

"We won 10 years ago and it will be nice to win again but we're not going to take anything for granted."

He added: "I was in the stand [in 1999] cheering the boys on and obviously we won so that was a very good day.

"[Luton] are a good team, I know they're a league below but anything can happen on cup final day."

Sparrow formally signed for the club as a 16-year-old and played in the FA Youth Alliance final for Scunthorpe at the old Wembley stadium against West Bromwich Albion.
