Salisbury sign defender Sangare

Salisbury City

Salisbury have signed former Stafford Rangers centre-back Djoumin Sangare, pending international clearance.

Frenchman Sangare, 24, has been on trial with the Whites and scored in their pre-season win over Swindon Town.

Coach Tommy Widdrington told BBC Radio Wiltshire that the Whites have been trailing the player for a long time.

"We've had him in our sights since very early last season. He was top of the list and I hope he has a good stay with us," he said.

Sangare appeared 30 times for Stafford last season.

His previous clubs include Chelmsford City, Lewes and Grays Athletic in England and Wasquehal in his homeland.

He sees danger and snuffs it out

Widdrington believes Sangare can reprise the role Luton loanee Ed Asafu-Adjaye played last season.

"He's well versed in the league and a more mature version of Ed, a defender first and foremost, although he's fairly comfortable on the ball," added Widdrington.

"He's a mobile guy, very athletic, he sees danger and snuffs it out."

The former Port Vale midfielder says manager Nick Holmes is still looking to add to his squad before the White's next pre-season fixture on Tuesday.

"We're still talking to one or two players and we've still got [trialist] Brian Dutton around.

"Unfortunately, on Saturday we picked up three more injuries, all in the attacking area.

"We've contacted a few people and hopefully we might have one or two of them with us for the game against Bashley," he added.
