Rangers decide on Nieto departure
Federico Nieto
Nieto scored three times as a substitute for Rangers
Argentine striker Federico Nieto has left Rangers after failing to win a permanent deal at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old signed a six-month loan deal with the option of another five years but made just six appearances before damaging his ankle ligaments.

"He's had a tough time with injuries and I've not had nearly long enough to look at him," Rangers manager Alex McLeish told the club website.

"So he will go (back to Almagro) and we'll look at other players."

Nieto scored three times as a substitute in his brief Ibrox career but McLeish believes he has enough options up front.

"We swithered about keeping him for another six months but we've brought Kris Boyd in and we've got Dado Prso coming back.

"We've got Nacho Novo and Thomas Buffel and Peter Lovenkrands is going great guns through the middle so I couldn't see how I could get him into the team.

"I think we would only have been holding him back so we felt it was time to sever the connection."

Rangers also have striker Francis Jeffers on loan from Charlton but the former Everton and Arsenal player has failed to score a single goal.
