Preston manager Phil Brown confirms Matt Hill interest

Preston manager Phil Brown has spoken to former Lilywhites' defender Matt Hill about a possible return.

The 30-year-old made more than 100 league appearances for North End between 2005 and 2008 before joining Wolves and is now a free agent.

Brown told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It would be remiss of me to say I hadn't spoken to him.

"We've had a conversation. I'm delighted that he's in the area, he's available and he has experience."

Hill's first spell at Preston was brought to an end in September 2008 when he joined Wolves in an exchange deal which included striker Stephen Elliott. He helped them win the Championship in 2009 and went on to make 17 appearances for Mick McCarthy's side in all competitions.

He has also represented Queens Park Rangers on loan and ended last season on a short-term deal with Barnsley.

Brown said: "When you speak to Preston fans they will tell you he won every player of the year award one year and you're thinking: Why was he allowed to leave?

"The opportunity will arise again hopefully for Matty to come in and speak to us. Where it takes us will again depend on finances."
