Hayes last goal came against Doncaster in April

Paul Hayes has left Preston by mutual consent after the striker and the League One club came to an agreement to cancel his contract early.

The 27-year-old joined North End from Scunthorpe on a free transfer in 2010 and scored three goals in his first four games.

Hayes, who has two years remaining on his contract at Deepdale, spent two months on loan at Barnsley this term.

He made 26 appearances and scored four goals for Preston.

Meanwhile Preston have awarded centre-half Daniel Devine a one-year professional contract.

The 19-year-old Irish defender played the full 90 minutes against Ipswich and Watford in the final two league games partnering Craig Morgan in the heart of the North End defence.
