Ormerod relishing Preston chance

Preston striker Brett Ormerod has said he is determined to make the most of his first-team opportunities.

The 31-year-old returned to Deepdale after spending two months on-loan at Nottingham Forest towards the end of last season.

"I always intended to come back here," Ormerod told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I spoke with the gaffer [Alan Irvine] and he's always made it clear I was part of his plans and that's good enough for me."

The former Southampton forward arrived at Deepdale on a free transfer in January 2006, but a spate of injuries restricted his first-team opportunities to 68 appearances.

Ormerod broke his leg during Preston's semi-final play-off with Leeds in May 2006, and fractured his cheekbone against Wolves the following year.

Never have I gone to the gaffer and said I wanted to leave this football club

He agreed a loan-move to Nottingham Forest in March this year, helping them secure promotion to the Championship.

"I asked if there was any chance of going out on-loan and getting a few games to get my fitness and confidence back," he added.

And Ormerod stresses he has never had any problems with the North End boss.

"I've known [Irvine] for a long time because he was my youth-team manager at Blackburn. So I've known him since I was about eight-years-old.

"I never fell out with him. I was speaking with him throughout my time at Forest.

"I didn't think I was getting much out of the reserves, and it was against Coventry when I came on as sub and I just felt I'd lost my fitness.

"With the injuries I've had the past couple of seasons I didn't want another season to go by without playing a lot of football. But that seems to have been the story of my life recently.

"There've been a number of misquotes in the paper. Things like that can turn people against you, but you can ask anybody - never have I gone to the gaffer and said I wanted to leave this football club."
