Mandaric relies on Redknapp magic

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric believes having Harry Redknapp back as manager is the club's only chance of avoiding relegation.

Redknapp returned for a second spell in charge on 7 December and Mandaric told BBC Sport: "Everything that I expected is happening.

"If we are to have any chance of staying up it is because we have Harry back at the club.

"We have not had one argument yet and we are best buddies in the world."

Pompey have Panathinaikos striker Emmanuel Olisadebe on trial and Mandaric will sanction further spending during the January transfer window if he believes the club can avoid the drop.

"We are desperate for a few more points to be in the race," added Mandaric, whose club are third bottom, three points adrift of West Brom.

"If we do get those points - which I hope we do in our three games before January - then we will be bringing more quality to the club and be in business during the transfer window."

Pompey defeated fellow strugglers West Brom last weekend and play West Ham on Boxing Day, Arsenal two days later and Fulham on 31 December.

"What I know about Harry is that when he is on top form he is capable of waking up everyone's potential - and that is exactly what he is doing," said Mandaric.

"It is a very exciting time - the players are very excited and he has brought his passion to the club.

"If you asked me whether I am better now than two or three weeks ago then I can say that is absolutely the case.

"I have had some awful time, dreadful, but having Harry back at the club I can look forward to having a lot of fun."
