Port Vale manager Micky Adams has said he remains confident that striker Marc Richards will remain at Vale Park.

Richards was one of eight Vale players offered a contract by the League Two club at the end of the season.

"I've had a chat with his agent and we're hopeful that he'll sign," Vale boss Adams told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He's within his rights to speak to other clubs, but he likes the area, he's buying into what we're trying to do and I'm confident he'll sign."

Richards scored 23 goals as Vale finished 10th in League Two in Adams' first season in charge.

Chris Martin, John McCombe, Kris Taylor, Anthony Griffith, Lewis Haldane and Louis Dodds have all agreed new contracts since the end of the campaign.

Adams continued: "My first priority was to get the players that were out of contract tied down to deals and we've managed to do that.

"After that, we have to see what's in the open market and we won't be rushing into deals, but there are players out there that interest us."

Vale are also waiting for a decision from striker Sean Rigg, who has been offered a permanent deal after spending the last five months of the season on loan at Vale Park.

Rigg, who scored three goals during his loan spell, was recently released by Bristol Rovers.
