No decision yet on new Vale boss

Port Vale
Vale are looking for their third manager in 11 months

A decision on who will be the new manager of Port Vale is yet to be made following a board meeting on Thursday, reports BBC Radio Stoke.

Dean Glover and Andy Porter have been placed in charge of the first team for Saturday's game away at Gillingham.

It is thought that both men are in contention to succeed Lee Sinnott, who was sacked on Monday.

Chairman Bill Bratt has already conceded that the new manager will be appointed from within the club.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It is more than likely that we will promote from within.

"We haven't got any money to spend on a new manager at the current time."

Glover was put in charge of the Valiants in September 2007 after the sacking of Martin Foyle.

However he failed to improve results, winning just two of his eight games in charge.

Andy will want to take the main position because he's got his own ideas

"I'm probably a dead man walking," said Glover. "People already have formed their opinions about me, as they did the last time I was in charge.

"Last time I only had five weeks in charge and it is never easy to improve results in such a short space of time."

Porter is the current youth-team coach at Vale Park and has presided over the development of several youngsters who have made the step up to first-team level.

The youth team has also enjoyed success in its own right, reaching the quarter-finals of last season's FA Youth Cup and Glover believes Porter will be looking at the top job at Vale Park.

"Andy will want to take the main position because he's got his own ideas," said Glover.

"But I have my ideas too, I may have already been judged by some people because of my past results but I'm only asking for a chance.

"It's a bad time for the club, both on and off the field, but I think I can take us forward."
