Vale switch for Smith
Port Vale have signed experienced defender Dean Smith following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 33-year-old centre-back has agreed a 12-month deal and linked up with the Vale squad in pre-season training.

"He is an organiser and will be a great asset with all the younger players we have," boss Martin Foyle said.

Smith joined Wednesday in February 2002 and has started almost 550 league games in a career which has taken in spells at Walsall, Leyton Orient and Hereford.
