Vale to unleash teenager
Port Vale look set to unleash 18-year-old defender Ryan Brown on the Second Division next season.

Brown, a local lad from Kidsgrove who operates at left wing-back, has starred in Vale's pre-season friendlies including a victory over virtually a full-strength Birmingham side.

"I have been at Port Vale since I was nine and hopefully I have got a few years left here," he told the Stoke Sentinel newspaper.

"It feels great (to have been in a side which beat Birmingham). I can't wait to go home to tell my mates."

Brown is now being tipped to fill the void at left-back which has dogged Vale since Allen Tankard was released two years ago.

"I got the call from the manager when I came back from pre-season training and I feel I have taken my chance," said Brown.

"I would love it if he told me I was playing against Bournemouth. After playing against Crewe and Birmingham, I am losing those nerves."
