Plymouth Argyle face winding-up petition by HMRC

Plymouth Argyle

League One side Plymouth Argyle are facing a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs.

The petition was presented to the club on 23 October, with the club summoned to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice on 8 December.

A related company, Home Park Properties which was formed in January 2010, has also been presented with a winding-up petition by HMRC.

In a statement, the club said the issue was being addressed by the board.

The club recorded a £2.8m loss for the 2008/09 financial year and were previously issued with a winding-up order for unpaid tax by HM Revenue & Customs last season.

Former Leeds and Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was in Plymouth on Thursday holding talks with the Argyle board.

On the pitch, Argyle sit 15th in League One, just three points above the relegation zone, and just 4,960 fans watched them beat Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 on Tuesday, their lowest gate of the season.

In an official statement issued late on Thursday, the club said: "The board and principal shareholders are addressing the issue and in addition, are in discussions with potential future investors, as indicated in our announcement earlier today (Thursday)."
