Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that former manager Paul Sturrock is leaving the club, after spending two spells at Home Park.

Sturrock, who was relieved of his managerial duties back in December, has been working in a business support role at the club ever since.

The Scot said: "While I enjoyed my new role and responsibilities, I am a football manager - that is what I do."

"Therefore, I have decided to seek a return to management."

During Sturrock's first spell in Devon he was arguably the most successful manager in the Argyle's history, leading them to two promotions in three seasons.

His second spell was less successful, and the club's 13th defeat in 19 games at Swansea at the start of December heralded the end of his rein, with Paul Mariner subsequently taking over first-team duties.

Plymouth executive director Keith Todd said: "Paul Sturrock is a legend, right up there with the Plymouth Argyle greats.

"It has never been anything less than a pleasure to work alongside him and to marvel at the depths of his knowledge of football."
