Plymouth Argyle head coach Paul Mariner has revealed he is trying to extend Kari Arnason's contract beyond the end of the season.
The 27-year-old Icelandic international signed a one-year deal with the Pilgrims in July.
Arnason arrived at Plymouth as a midfielder but has played most of his football for the club in defence.
Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner told the club's official website: "We're attending to it [the contract] now."
Mariner added: "Since Paul Sturrock put him playing central defence, we have worked with him on the coaching side.
"He has responded and he really likes that position. He can still obviously play in midfield but he has done a fantastic job back there."
Since his debut in 2005 Arnason has gained 15 caps for Iceland's international side.
