Plymouth Argyle have added to their growing Scottish contingent at Home Park after completing the signings of two Premier League players in one day.

Experienced Sunderland defender Russell Anderson and Derby County winger Gary Teale, both 29, have arrived on loan until the end of the season.

They are current internationals, both named in George Burley's first squad.

And they have both joined the Argyle squad for Tuesday night's Championship match with Southampton at St Mary's.

Gary Teale only made his Scotland debut at the age of 27 while a Wigan player two years ago but has now won 10 caps
Russell Anderson was the only Scot nominated for last season's SFA Players' Player of the Year award
Paul Sturrock has now signed five fellow Scots since January

Teale's manager at Derby, Paul Jewell, sees the winger's move to the South West as a well-timed one.

He has not started a Premier League game since 2 January, since when his only starts have come in the FA Cup.

"He's lost a bit of confidence and he needs to go and play some football," Jewell told BBC Radio Derby.

"Gary's had limited first team opportunities. I had him at Wigan and he's a terrific lad."

Russell Anderson
Anderson is looking to resume a season interrupted by injuries
Anderson has fallen even more out of favour at Sunderland, where injuries have limited him to just two appearances since his 1m move from Aberdeen back in the summer - and both of those came back in late August.

After rupturing his ankle ligaments on his full debut in a Carling Cup match at Luton, he missed three months of the season as he recovered from reconstructive surgery

Anderson, capped nine times by Scotland but not since May 2006, joins a growing Scottish contingent to be signed by Sturrock since January.

Steve MacLean, Chris Clark, a former team-mate of Anderson's at Pittodrie, Jim Paterson and now Teale too have all signed since Sturrock returned to Argyle three months ago.
