Wijnhard boost for Oldham

Oldham Athletic striker Clyde Wijnhard is closing in on a comeback despite fears that he would never play for the club again.

Wijnhard hasn¿t played since December because of a knee problem.

It had been suggested that the former Leeds United and Huddersfield Town frontman would require surgery which would keep out of action for 18 months.

But the 29-year-old Dutchman, whose contract at Boundary Park expires in the summer, has instead undergone a programme of rest and rehabilitation and is now back in training.

"His knee feels absolutely fantastic in the sense that it's stable and there's no reaction to all the work he's doing," said Oldham physio Paul Caton.

"He thinks it's the best it's felt in a long time. He's had a good break to get it right now so it should be feeling good and hopefully he could be back playing within a couple of weeks," Caton told the club¿s website.

Wijnhard remains the Latics' 11-goal top-scorer this season, being restricted to just 17 appearances.
