Gittens joins Nuneaton Borough
Jon Gittens
Jon Gittens in action for Exeter City last season
Nuneaton Borough's prospects for their second season back in the Nationwide Conference have been boosted by the signing of experienced defender Jon Gittens.

The 36-year-old centre-back has arrived at Borough on a free transfer after being released by Exeter City.

Gittens, who also had spells with Torquay, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Southampton, is the eighth signing by Nuneaton manager Brendan Phillips this summer.

Phillips said: "Jon will certainly add quality and dominance to our defence. He is a natural leader and I had been tracking him for three months until he was released."

Nuneaton's major signing of the close season was striker Mark McGregor, who cost a club record fee of 35,000 from Forest Green Rovers.

McGregor, who helped keep Forest Green in the Conference last season, will link up with Lee Charles from Hayes and another Rovers stalwart, Alex Sykes.
