Preston's Ormerod moves to Forest
Striker Brett Ormerod
Ormerod, 31, has not been a regular at struggling Preston
Nottingham Forest have signed striker Brett Ormerod on loan from Preston until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old, who had been down the pecking order at Preston, could make his Forest debut at Crewe on Saturday.

Ormerod joined North End from Southampton in January 2006 but a broken leg and a fractured cheekbone limited his opportunities at Deepdale.

He scored one goal in 20 league and cup appearances for the Championship club this season, making nine starts.

But Karl Hawley, Neil Mellor and Chris Brown have all been preferred by North End boss Alan Irvine.

Preston signed striker Craig Beattie on loan from West Brom earlier this week but he was injured on his debut against Leicester on Tuesday.

Irvine is trying to bring in another forward and told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Brett's going to join Nottingham Forest on-loan until the end of the season, but with a 24-hour recall after the first 28 days.

"Brett has been frustrated about a lack of opportunities in the first-team and I sympathise with him because he's a great lad and a terrific professional.

"But, it's been a case of him slipping down the pecking order due to injury and not being able to get himself back up.

"Brett's very much part of the plans for the club as we move on. Quite simply he's frustrated about a lack of chances.

"While he was out injured people got ahead of him and took their chance.

"I said all along when I came in that I would stick by people who were doing a good job for the team, and Brett's had to sit there and accept that and wait patiently."

Forest have Junior Agogo, Grant Holt and Nathan Tyson, who is currently recovering from injury, among their current forward options.

Will Hoskins arrived on loan from Watford but his spell at the City Ground has been undermined by injury.

Ormerod, who featured in the 2003 FA Cup final for Southampton, has also played for Accrington, Blackpool, Leeds and Wigan.
