Lisbie comments fire up Canaries

Bryan Gunn
Sunday will mark Gunn's first East Anglian derby as Norwich boss

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn has admitted that comments by Ipswich striker Kevin Lisbie will fire up his players ahead of Sunday's East Anglian derby.

Lisbie has been quoted saying that Ipswich would love to give Norwich "a good spanking" at Portman Road.

Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It's a bit of extra inspiration that we need.

"Some of it is inflaming the situation, but that's their decision as to the way some of their players want to go about their job for Sunday."

Gunn added: "We've done it in a slightly more relaxed way, and hopefully we'll get a response from that.

When asked whether the comments might be pinned on the Norwich dressing room wall, Gunn replied: "They're up already."

Gunn's place in East Anglian derby history is already assured after he famously air-kicked Rob Ullathorne's back-pass at Portman Road in 1996 to give Ipswich a 2-1 win.

"I've played in enough [derby games]," said Gunn. "But that one always seems to feature.

"I'm sure there'll be a couple of plays of it, and I'm looking forward to seeing it, because it just shows you how bad the pitch was that day.

"I'm sure the ball bounces higher every time I look at it, but that is history. It's down to our players to go to Portman Road and write their own history."
