Norwich capture striker McDonald

Non League

Norwich have completed a deal for Dartford striker Cody McDonald.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 20 goals for Dartford during the past four months, has joined the Championship side for an undisclosed fee.

But Dartford chairman Dave Skinner confirmed that the transfer fee was a record for the Ryman League club.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "It was bigger than Dave Martin's sale [to Crystal Palace for about 25,000]. We decided on a figure and Norwich matched it."

McDonald has been working night shifts as a scaffolder and only joined the Darts from Ryman North side Witham Town in September.

Manager Tony Burman said: "He can't believe what's happened to him. He's on cloud nine, his family are so pleased.

"He's just had twins over Christmas and he's pinching himself. The hunger's in him to do well."

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn told their official website: "Cody's got an eye for goal and pace, which in modern football is crucial.

"He has the raw ingredients of a top striker."

Also speaking to the Norwich City website, McDonald said "It's the biggest achievement any young person can achieve."
