Cobblers sign Branston from Posh
Guy Branston
Branston will fill the gap left by Chris Doig's knee ligament injury
Northampton have signed Peterborough defender Guy Branston on a month's loan, after losing fellow centre-back Chris Doig to a long-term injury.

Doig will be on the sidelines for three to four months after tearing knee ligaments in the 1-1 draw against Darlington on Saturday.

Branston, 28, has made nearly 250 league appearances for 11 clubs.

Meanwhile the Cobblers' move to sign Polish defender Marcin Adamski has fallen through.

Adamski had been on trial with Northampton, but the club could not agree terms with his agent.

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray moved for Branston after Doig's injury was found to be worse than they had feared.

"We thought Chris would only be out for a month and that it was just a hamstring injury, but he's going to need surgery," Gray told the club's website.

"While we have some very talented centre-backs on our books, they don't have a great deal of experience between them.

"So the knowledge and experience Guy will bring to us will be of benefit - he is a leader with a very good attitude."

Branston is ineligible for Northampton's FA Cup replay with Darlington next Tuesday as he was not signed in time for the original tie, but he does have permission to play in the second round if Gray's men progress.
