Newcastle's Andy Carroll out for up to three weeks

Newcastle maintain Andy Carroll will only be out injured for another "two to three weeks", despite reports claiming he may be sidelined for two months.

The striker missed the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday, the fifth game he has sat out with a thigh strain.

However, the Magpies quashed speculation he will be out until March.

A spokesman told BBC Sport: "There's no factual basis to the report. He will be out for two to three weeks as boss Alan Pardew said before the Spurs game."

Carroll last played in Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on 28 December.

The England international, 22, has had an impressive start to the season, scoring 11 Premier League goals this term.

The Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by League Two side Stevenage and so do not have a game this weekend.

Newcastle's next match is on 2 February against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
