Newcastle United reach FA Youth Cup semi-finals

Newcastle United

Newcastle United will meet Fulham or Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup after beating Crystal Palace 4-2 on Thursday.

Conor Newton and Sammy Adjei put the Magpies in control before Joe Goldsmith responded for Palace with a penalty having already missed from the spot.

Phil Airey and Sammy Ameobi secured their place in the last four with Ibra Seakajja netting a late consolation.

The first leg of the semi-final has been pencilled in for 6 March 2010.

Magpies academy manager Joe Joyce told BBC Newcastle:

"It was a very tough game which we expected, we knew Palace would be difficult to break down but we also felt that we would create goalscoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, and that's how it turned out.

"Unfortunately we conceded a couple of poor goals, which kept Palace in the tie and I'm sure it was entertaining for the people who came to watch.

"But once we got that two goal cushion it was going to be very difficult for them to get into it."
