Newcastle confirm Emre will leave

Emre Belozoglu
Emre has also played for Fenerbahce's fierce Istanbul rivals Galatasary

Newcastle have confirmed they are selling Turkey midfielder Emre Belozoglu to Fenerbahce.

Kevin Keegan's club gave the Turkish team permission to speak with Emre, 27, to discuss personal terms and the deal should be completed this week.

A statement on Newcastle's website said the two clubs had agreed the transfer, although a fee has not been revealed.

Turkey captain Emre has been dogged by injury at Newcastle after moving from Inter Milan in 2005 for 4m.

Reports have suggested that the transfer fee involved could be about 8m.

Emre, a former Galatasaray and Inter Milan player, came to prominence after helping Turkey to a third-place finish at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

He has made 58 appearances for the Magpies, scoring five goals, and is under contract until 2011.
