Owen rejects Newcastle exit talk
Newcastle United striker Michael Owen
Owen has plenty to prove to Newcastle's supporters
Michael Owen has insisted he is happy to be at Newcastle and is desperate to produce his best form next season.

Owen, 27, has been linked a move away from St James' Park, but he revealed he his committed to the Magpies.

"I believe that these can be good times to be at Newcastle, which is why I am more than happy to be here.

"There has been plenty of speculation about my future, but I can assure the Newcastle fans that I didn't start any of it," he told The Times.

Owen missed most of last season after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for England at the 2006 World Cup and is determined to prove himself at St James' Park.

"There was a lot of talk from other quarters and my attitude to rumour has always been to ignore it.

"I prefer to let my actions speak for themselves and I just wish there had been more opportunities to show the Newcastle fans what I am capable of. I am sure that is to come this season."

The striker's contract contains a clause which means he can go if a substantial bid - believed to be more than £9m - is received.
